On June 28, students in the Social Media class will take a look into technology that is rising in popularity that are likely to be used in the students’ schools.

According to instructor Erica Smith there will be two presentations which will introduce students to such concepts.

“We’re going to take a look at the newest social media accounts students have at their schools and kind of evaluate those and learn about those and what needs to be improved and changed,” Smith said.

Student Jessica Kramer said she plans to pursue social media as a career.

“I really want to do political journalism. I still want to write for the web but maybe running a campaign Instagram,” Kramer said.

Smith said she places a strong emphasis on “playing around” with new media, saying that users can figure out a lot from social media by just messing around and having fun.
“You never know what’s gonna be out there,” Simth said. “Something as ridiculous as Facebook live, just play around with it and see what it’s like. Whatever the next big app is, we don’t know what it is because we haven’t seen it yet. Just playing is the biggest thing I want them to take away from camp, especially from social media class.”
