Providing students with further information on internet tools and tips to enhance their schools publication website, Jason Wallestad, web instructor and School Newspapers Online (SNO), allows students to work independently on assignments. According to Wallestad, the students can take what they’ve learned from the class back to their school’s publications staff after camp.

One of these students is Jaclyn Berry, who is a junior at Lee’s Summit HS.

Regarding the course, Berry said, “The class teaches us to create websites and improve the one we already have. I’m actually on the broadcasting staff at my school and this class will help make not only our site more appealing but our videos as well. We learned how to create polls and use other tools and features to make our videos and website better. We will then be able to eventually combine the two and upload the videos to our website”

Wallestad said, “The students are taking their already existing website and running with (it). They can go back now and dress up old stories that they did last year and make adjustments. Currently we are just introducing  how websites work to some and providing information on design tools to others.”
