Students will practice depth of field in the photography class on June 23.

Odell Mitchell Jr., St. Louis Post Dispatch photographer, who teaches the class at the MediaNowSTL camp, said he focuses mainly on the basics of camera use.

“We’ll go out and practice doing depth of field photos, learning how to shoot photos with only one thing in focus or everything in focus,” Mitchell Jr. said.

The class will be discussing the photographic method of focusing the lens on the focal point before venturing out to practice, supplementing their knowledge of working with the cameras’ apertures and shutter speeds.

The practice will be beneficial for students like Joseph Anderson, from Lawrence High School.

“We’ll be working on photos that represent a depth of field,” Anderson said. “Finding a unique landscape to take a photo of [will be difficult].”
